I realize that most of the world has moved beyond output to paper, but we have customers that print invoices, checks and such. Some of the printers I have installed (CentOS 5, CentOS 6) do _not_ log to /var/log/cups/page_log. I've tried a couple of google searches but I am not coming up with a search string that gives meaningful thoughts on how to diagnose such a thing.

The most recent example is an HP MFP thingy. Using the generic PostScript driver printed but munged the margins. So I went through the complete exercise of downloading the latest hplip package (which bitches about CentOS) and got the printer working to the customer's delight. But there are no log entries.

Sigh...
