As I mentioned to some of you at Tuesday night's meeting, my cell phone battery
abruptly lost much of its ability to hold a charge a few days ago. I called
Verizon, and was sent a replacement phone. While taking the SIM card and
memory card out of the old phone yesterday, I discovered that the back of the
phone was bulging. Evidently, the battery swelled up. I am lucky that I didn't
have a fire. A rupture would have been almost as bad, as lithium-ion batteries
contain hydrofluoric acid, one of the most corrosive substances known.
