Some of you may remember hearing me grumble about my tablet computer. I bought
a Nextbook 8 at Walmart a few months ago. It worked OK until Nextbook released
new firmware. With the new firmware, Android 4.4.2 (KitKat), it generated so
much network traffic that it DDOSed my home network.

The solution turned out to be to switch off any attempt to locate the tablet's
position. Since the tablet lacks a GPS or cellular connection, this has to be
calculated based on the WiFi connection. Under the previous Android 4.1.2
firmware, this technique worked OK. Under 4.4.2, this produced so much network
traffic that nothing else on the network could reach the outside world.
