I read one comment on /. that this did NOT include WinForms. This sort of 
makes practical sense in that WinForms relies almost totally on the Win32(+) 
infrastructure. So, while having the CLR made open source could be a boon, 
someone (Xamarin/Mono?) will have to provide the GUI components and controls 
to provide the WinForms equivalent for X windows. I’m no Mono expert by any 
stretch, but what Mono I have used does provide this (albeit it is not 100% 
most of the time). Perhaps something like this will spur Xamarin’s efforts 
towards the GUI aspects of Mono as opposed to what they’ve been having to 
traditionally handle (GUI + CLR).



I also wonder what the new “free” (for small teams) Visual Studio will look 
like compared to Visual Studio Express versions?



Still, this is an interesting development to say the least!
