For lightweight portability reasons (and it's my favorite color) I bought an HP Stream laptop a few months back for web browsing. I think it was $129, Intel Celeron, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage (I guess this is 32GB SSD?). Also I do video editing/rendering and was advised early on to keep video computing gear off the internet.
The system seemed useful at first; didn't take long for it to slow down to almost useless. I noticed via the control panel that I can turn off certain programs and since I'm a Firefox user, off went Internet Explorer and all of a sudden it runs great. I don't remember being able to do this in previous versions of Windows, couldn't uninstall MS Office trialware to save my life; now I think it's off. I'm guessing Linux is way more flexible in being able to turn off and uninstall programs. Maybe I'll be a more regular Linux user soon. -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "NLUG" group.
