Hello, Here's the initial info on study session #1.
Location: Nashville Software School 500 Interstate Blvd S, Suite 300 Nashville, TN 37210 http://nashvillesoftwareschool.com/ Date: June 10th. This is the 2nd Saturday of the month. Time: Noon to 2:00pm. Tentative breakdown for session #1 is as follows: 12:00pm - 12:15pm = Load-in/setup. 12:15pm - 12:45pm = Opening remarks and presentation. Presentation slides will be available in advance. 12:45pm - 1:00pm = Q&A, brief break. 1:00pm - 1:30pm = Group labs and exercises. 1:30pm - 1:45pm = Closing remarks, assigned reading and self-study exercises for next session (June 24th). 1:45pm - 2:00pm = Teardown/load-out. Note: The Linux+/LPIC-1 certs are based on CentOS 7, which is x86-64 only (ie - it's a 64-bit OS, so it won't run on older 32-bit hardware, but that shouldn't be a problem for any laptop made in the last 10-12 years). You'll want to have CentOS 7 installed and running by June 10th, preferably earlier so you can start playing with it. If you need help installing and configuring it, you're in luck! We have an installfest coming up this Saturday, May 20th, at the East Nashville Beer Works, from 11:00am to 4:00pm (show up at 10:00am if you want to help set up and learn how to run an installfest). More info here: https://www.meetup.com/Nashville-Linux-Users-Group/events/239881032/ If you want to try installing CentOS 7 yourself, download it here: https://www.centos.org/download/ Initial reading assignments, more to follow (many, many more): Linux and unix; read linked and related articles, too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_kernel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix The Linux+ certification; has some study material and sample questions: https://certification.comptia.org/certifications/linux CentOS 7; the linux distribution used by the Linux+ exam: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CentOS systemd vs sysVinit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Systemd https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Init Comments/criticisms/suggestions welcome. ~~ Dru Myers (NLUG President) -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "NLUG" group.
