Hello John,

        I'm also an exmh-nmh user but on HP-UX platform. I don't have
much experience of Linux but may try to help you anyway. As
someone told already, if the /usr/bin/play file is a shell
script you could comment out OR put the absolute path to reach
the mixer file (if it exists).

On the other hand, have you checked the permissions on each and
every element of /usr/lib/exmh-2.0.2/ tree. On my machine, I got
this for the file location ( please check it out ;-):

<hp735>[emile]<142>ll /usr/local/exmh/lib/drip.au
-rw-r--r-- 1 root sys 759 Jun 3 09:14 /usr/local/exmh/lib/drip.au

And my configuration is as follows :

<hp735>[emile]<143>grep "^set exmh" /usr/local/exmh/bin/exmh
set exmh(version) {version 2.1.0 04/14/1999}
set exmh(name) exmh
set exmh(maintainer) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
set exmh(slocal) /usr/local/nmh/lib/slocal
set exmh(expect) /usr/local/bin/expect
set exmh(expectk) /usr/local/bin/expectk
set exmh(library) /usr/local/exmh-2.1.0/lib
<hp735>[emile]<145>comp -v
comp -- nmh-1.0 [compiled on hp735 at Wed Feb 10 10:06:31 MET 1999]
<hp735>[emile]<146>uname -a
HP-UX hp735 B.10.20 A 9000/735 2005679367 two-user license
<hp735>[emile]<147>

Good luck and keep me posted if I can help any further. Regards,
