I think it's pretty real. It also affects trying to use command-line
mh and gui mh at the same time.

Not necessarily. It just means none of the people who have been
hacking on nmh have been bothered enough by it to deal. :-)
Although you do have to be careful about not deadlocking. (For
instance, if one process does a refile from A to B while another
process is doing a refile from B to A.)
