Thats certainly the problem - my ~/Mail/context file contains:
Current-Folder: inbox
atr-cur-/home/slipcon/Mail/inbox: 57
atr-cur-/home/slipcon/Mail/inbox/umbc: 116
atr-unseen-/home/slipcon/Mail/inbox/umbc: 107-117
atr-cur-/home/slipcon/Mail/inbox/other: 435
atr-unseen-/home/slipcon/Mail/inbox/other: 309-317 321-357 359 361-377
394-418 425-429 431-436
atr-cur-/home/slipcon/Mail/inbox/lkernel: 1039
atr-unseen-/home/slipcon/Mail/inbox/lkernel: 376-377 379-519 524-600
602-695 697-946 948-954 956-1038 1040-1477
I didn't put any of that there, I don't know what did!
none of my mail folders are read-only or anything, and they're all on
the same (local) disk.
