I just tried an experiment in my .mh_profile: #: eFaxes come as octet-stream (with filename=*.tif, but nmh ignores that?) #: ImageMagick exits gracefully if it can't figure out what type we have, #: so it seems like a good default "show-er" (for X, at least...): mhshow-show-application/octet-stream: %p/usr/X11R6/bin/display '%F'
It seems to work pretty well on arbitrary application/octet-stream content. Even without seeing the filename extension, "display" seems to check the image header and "do the right thing" -- even with gzipped content, like gzipped TIFF files. Comments, anyone?
