I'm working through the 'posixify' pass on the code base, and the
inevitable 'signed vs. unsigned' char debate has started. Is there anyone
on the list with *categorical* knowledge of why 'unsigned char' is in
certain chunks of the code base? If so, please send me a note, as I would
like to rationalize the usage against current standard libraries. (and
please, no 'guessers'? i can guess for myself.)
