I find that quite clutter-ful, with the []/<> being two characters to indicate one thing, and the identical subject repeated. http://www.davep.org/mutt/screenshots/index.png is an example of mutt's presentation. (Like Ken, I liked trn's little context tree when viewing a single Usenet article.)
