well, i think "units" is fine, and not terribly misleading.  but
"kilo" is an excellent suggestion, and might be better, especially
since it allows for "kibi" as well, and backwards compatibility might
appreciate that.

it's clearly (to me, at least) not too late to change "units" to
"kilo".  kibi can be added separately.

would anyone object if i did that?
