Thank you for the analysis. I am wondering, though ... WHY does xlbiff set HOME to '' for this test? (I am neutral on whether or not this is technically a regression; I can see it both ways. Alexander does point out that HOME is supposed to be valid according to POSIX, but I am not 100% that means it can't be a zero-length string). --Ken
