I don't agree. The ideal would be for mandoc to gain support for .fc (listed in its TODO as a desired but low-importance [read: rarely used] manpage feature), but despite its imperfect compatibility here, mandoc is a widely used program, the default manpage formatter in most BSDs, some Linux distributions, popular web frontends like manpages.debian.org and man.archlinux.org, and apparently now macOS. It is worth catering for. Considering equivalent results can be achieved with a straightforward conversion to tbl, a widely supported and appropriately venerable tool, I see no reason to avoid doing so.
