Dear all,

UCB (http://www.ucb.com/) is a global leader in the biopharmaceutical
industry dedicated to the

research, development and commercialization of innovative pharmaceutical
and biotechnology

products in the fields of central nervous system disorders, and immune
and inflammatory

disorders. UCB focuses on securing a leading position in severe disease
categories. At the

Research Centre of "UCB New Medicines", we are looking to recruit two
talented PhD scientists

to join our post-doc programme:

1) Quantitative and Systems Pharmacology Modeling Post-Doc - extending
our

mechanistic and quantitative understanding of disease and causality.

Systems Pharmacology involves the application of systems biology
approaches, combining large scale

experimental studies with model-based computational analyses, to study
drug activities,

targets and effects. The objective of the 2 year post-doctoral position
will be to work within a drug

discovery and early clinical development environment to develop a
mechanistic model which

captures and describes the dynamic relationship between key
immunological events and

inflammatory mediators of interest in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The
systems model developed

will then be used to generate hypotheses on the interplay and
significance of these mediators in

disease, as well as the ability to identify and rank biomarkers of
disease progression/severity and

potential drug candidate response.

The opportunity will require the post-doc to work closely with other
systems pharmacology

scientists/engineers, therapeutic area experts and cell biologists. The
opportunity will be

expected to generate at least 3 high impact peer reviewed publications.

Preferred Background: PhD in mechanistic PK-PD, Engineering or Applied
Mathematics

Location: Either UK (Slough) or Belgium

Please contact: [email protected] or [email protected]

2) Pharmacometric Methodology Post-Doc: Advancement of model-based drug

development.

Model based drug development (MBDD) is advocated by industry, academia
and regulatory

agencies as a powerful tool to improve the efficiency of drug
development. Clinical

Pharmacometricians,Statisticians and Pharmacologists play a lead role in
implementing MBDD

because of their ability to integrate mechanistic, pre-clinical and
clinical information, using

quantitative approaches to address complex questions arising during drug
development. For

example, one aspect of model based drug development is the application
of advanced PK-PD

models to the exploration of innovative and early decision making
clinical trials. The objective of

the 2 year post-doctoral position will be to work within an early
clinical development environment

in an applied setting to explore the application and nuances of various
trial designs, choice and

sensitivity of endpoints, predicting the probability of success of
trials based on interim evaluation

and the impact of incorporating active comparators. Such problems unite
clinicians and the

advanced modeller/statistician, but indeed require advance statistical
modeling theory, thinking

and simulation to propose solutions.

The opportunity will require the post-doc to work closely with other
modellers/statisticians as well

as clinicians, and is expected to generate at least 3 high impact peer
reviewed publications, and a

contribution to applied statistical methodology.

Preferred Background: PhD in Applied Statistics, Mathematics or
Pharmacometrics.

Location: Either UK (Slough) or Belgium

Best regards,

Rocio
