The Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Cape Town is seeking 
to appoint a post-doctoral fellow to join the research and training activities 
of the Pharmacometrics Group.

The Division has established clinical and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic 
expertise in the area of tuberculosis, HIV, and malaria. It is involved in a 
number of large clinical trials across Africa and hosts an analytical lab 
engaged in pre-clinical research. Within the division, the Pharmacometrics 
Group is active internationally and enjoys research collaborations with some of 
the most renowned pharmacometrics teams worldwide.

The responsibilities of the post-doctoral fellow will include the development 
and conduct of modelling and simulation research projects, and the mentorship 
and training of postgraduate students. The research projects can be arranged 
according to the interests and skills of the candidate, but will be pertaining 
to the research interests of the division.

Requirements include:

•        A PhD awarded in the last 5 years in a discipline relevant to 
pharmacometrics (applied mathematics, engineering, (bio-)statistics, clinical 
pharmacology or related life sciences)
•        Excellent numerical skills and experience in computer programming 
(e.g. R, Matlab, C++)
•        Experience with NONMEM, Monolix or other modelling software
•        Demonstration of strong research capability
•        Good attitude towards team work
•        Good command of English

The following will be advantageous:

•        Direct experience in pharmacometric modelling and simulation in 
infectious diseases
•        Demonstration of leadership, training, and mentoring capability

The appointment duration is three years, renewable upon mutual agreement on a 
yearly basis, and a generous scholarship is offered.

Please note that, due to university regulations, postdoctoral fellowships 
cannot be offered to applicants that have previously held full-time 
professional or academic posts.
