KU Leuven invites applications for a full-time tenured academic position in
Pharmacometrics at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological
Sciences.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual (m/f) with an excellent
research record and experience in this field.

Pharmacometrics

Ref. ZAP-2015-114

The Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences includes all
medicines related disciplines from validation of a target to the safe use of a
drug by the patient.

While modelling and simulation are currently applied within several research
units of the department, there is a clear need for the implementation of
expertise and vision in the field of model-based drug development.

Duties

* Research

You have a strong interest in one or more sub-disciplines in the field of
Pharmacometrics, including pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PKPD)-, and
physiologically-based PK (PBPK)-modelling and simulation, quantitative
pharmacology, systems pharmacology and clinical trial simulation.
You establish an innovating research program in this domain, with ample
opportunities for collaboration with clinical researchers at the University
Hospitals Leuven. Diverse clinical and non-clinical data sources regarding
exposure and/or therapeutic/toxic effects of drugs that are either small
molecules or biologicals are available and do not need to be generated. The
obtained scientific output will be expected to adhere to the highest
international standards.
You will establish state-of-the-art computational models supporting
interpretation of clinical and non-clinical data, ultimately resulting in: (i)
improved drug development processes; and (ii) superior therapeutic drug
regimens (as well as improved clinical trial designs) for the intended
populations.
You independently develop your research program, and you attract the necessary
competitive research funds.
You provide support for modelling and simulation to colleagues within the
department. You also collaborate with the various scientists within the group
of Biomedical Sciences. In particular, you are expected to implement and apply
novel approaches in pharmacometric data analysis.
You will supervise PhD and post-doctoral research in an international setting.

* Teaching

You take on teaching assignments in the field of pharmacokinetic modelling.
This assignment will be based on your specific competence as determined in
consultation. Teaching duties will be limited during the first years and will
gradually increase, depending on your qualifications.
You contribute to the educational project of the department and the university
by guidance of master's theses and as supervisor of doctoral students.
You develop your teaching according to the vision of the KU Leuven on
activating and research-based education and you use the educational
opportunities for professional development offered by the university.

* Service

You are willing to support and initiate internal and external scientific and
societal services to the community as a whole and the general public.

Requirements

You have a PhD in either Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Bioscience
engineering or equivalent.
You have working knowledge of several state-of-the-art software tools relevant
to model-based drug development and pharmacometrics. Background in drug
development processes, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and (bio)pharmaceutics is
important.
You have at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience, with preference for
junior applicants. International research experience is highly appreciated.
You are able to conduct independent research and are skilled to obtain the
necessary national and international funding.
You have an excellent research record and very good teaching and training
skills, in order to contribute to the research output of the department and to
the quality of its educational program. The high quality of your research
should be evidenced by publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
You have good organisational skills and a team-player attitude. You have
leadership capacity within the University context.
With your motivation letter you add a research statement (max. 3 pages)
highlighting your added value for the research program of our Department and
for the Biomedical Sciences Group. In a teaching statement you elaborate on
your vision on academic teaching (max. 1 page).
The official administrative language used at KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not
speak Dutch (or do not speak it well) at the start of employment, KU Leuven
will provide language training to enable you to take part in meetings.
Before teaching courses in Dutch or English, you will be given the opportunity
to learn Dutch respectively English to the required standard.

Offer

We are offering full-time employment in an intellectually challenging
environment. KU Leuven is a research-intensive, internationally oriented
University that carries out both fundamental and applied scientific research.
It is highly inter-and multidisciplinary focused and strives for international
excellence. In this regard, it actively works together with research partners
in Belgium and abroad. It provides its students with an academic education that
is based on high-quality scientific research.
You will work in Leuven, a historic, dynamic and lively city located in the
heart of Belgium, within 20 minutes from Brussels, the capital of the European
Union, and less than two hours from Paris, London and Amsterdam.
Depending on your record and qualifications, you will be appointed to or
tenured in one of the grades of the senior academic staff: assistant professor,
associate professor, professor or full professor. In principle, junior
researchers are appointed as assistant professor on the tenure track for a
period of 5 years; after this period and a positive evaluation, they are
permanently appointed (or tenured) as an associate professor.
