"Welcome to the Future" - In Memory of Firesign Theater's Peter Bergman

Sad word comes of the death of Peter Bergman at 72, due to
complications of leukemia. Peter was perhaps best known for his
continuing role in (and co-founding of) L.A.'s legendary "Firesign
Theater" troupe and their even more legendary "comedy" albums. I
quote the word "comedy" since calling their amazing performance art
"comedy" is like calling a hydrogen bomb an "explosive" -- and all
done with editing blocks and splicing tape in the early days, not a
digital file to be seen.

One of Firesign's albums -- 1971's "I Think We're All Bozos on This
Bus" -- is of particular note to techies. Various sequences in this
gem can be interpreted as foreshadowing issues that we would later
relate to computer voice input and output systems, expert systems,
voicemail idiosyncrasies -- even search engine results run amok.

And if you're old enough to have ever worked on DEC PDP-10 systems,
there are other surprises contained therein.

So in memory of Peter, enjoy it for yourself now as I originally did
decades ago:

Peace, Peter. And thanks.
