The simple answer is that MoneyWell assumes that all the transactions  
with dates in the date range of the statement are candidates for  
reconciling in that statement. If you have transactions outside that  
range that are unreconciled, they are still shown but grayed out to  
indicate they are outside the range. Once you reconcile a transaction,  
the special reconcile date is set so it is included in that statement  
range. The transaction date is not affected.

I dislike confirmation dialogs because they tend to get ignored after  
a few uses and try to use deep undo/redo functionality instead.

I'm looking at a way to lock transactions in a future release and I'll  
also look at locking statements so these accidental changes are hard  
to make. Thanks.
