Kevin, If you can't see the individual components of a split with their amounts in each bucket then you can't really see the envelope budgeting process in action. If I spent $80 at Wal-Mart but only $50 was for groceries, $20 was for clothing, and $10 was office supplies then I should see those amounts and breakouts in my buckets because just knowing that I spent $80 at Wal-Mart doesn't help me control my spending.
