Mr. Mahfuzur Haider Chowdhury Rotan, General Secretary of Bangladesh Student League Central Committee as well as a post graduate student of the department of Home Economics of Dhaka University, who has recently released from Mymensing Central jail after 19 months from his arrest and detention under Special Power Act-1974 on 07 August 2008 is apprehending that he would be re-arrested as well as victimized in cross fire. After getting release from the jail custody, he was admitted at cabin No. 16 of Central Hospital, Green road Dhaka for his severe physical complains on 07 August 2008. He informed that after arresting from the gymnasium area of Dhaka university campus, at first he was taken to Dhaka university gymnasium army camp which was withdrawn after strong protest by the student of Dhaka university on August 2007. Then he was sunk in cool water of gymnasium swimming pool. Thereafter, some civil dressed army personnel tied his both hands and leg by rope as well as covered his head by black cloth and brutally tortured his whole body by baton for a long time. They also hang him with the ceiling and beat him severely. Later they put down him on the floor and kicked on his chest by boot and hit his knee. Further they beat his toe and punch his fingers and nails. They also squeezed his penis and testicycle. In this time they threatened him to kill by cross fire and used filthy language. During the time of his detention, he was also faced bad behavior by the jail authority. Some time, some unknown person asked him about in future of student politiccs, what is the direction of Sheikh Hasina, president of Bangladesh Awami League and former prime minister of Bangladesh regarding to student politics as well as future activity against the government. During the time of asking about these, they always used filthy language as well as do bad behavior. Due to failing to receive information from him they transferred him to Mymensing Central jail from Dhaka Central Jail as punishment. He also said that though he was sick, they jail authority did not give him proper treatment. In spite of clear recommendation of regular check up by the doctor, they jail authority did not obey it. Now he is suffering for severe chest pain, knee pain, low back pain, waist pain as well as suffering for eye problem. The central hospital authority completed his ECG and X-Ray and the concerned doctor suggested him to stay under total rest for a period of three months. Still he and his family members are anxious about his physical condition. They also apprehending that he would be rearrested and would be victimized in cross fire. How long we will tolerate it ??
