All, Can people who have a legitimate use case for the socket.bytesRead and socket.bytesWritten properties speak up now or forever hold their peace?
I would like to remove them on the grounds that: a) they were added for no real good reason (I don't recall the exact conversation but it was along the lines of "yeah, might be nice"). More importantly: b) they have a negative impact on performance, particularly socket.bytesWritten. To track the number of bytes accurately, strings have to be converted to buffers, which is expensive and gets in the way of optimizations. #3233[1] is the tracking issue, please keep your comments succinct and on-topic - we don't want to pollute the timelines of over 14,000 people. Longer rants and raves are, of course, welcome on the mailing list. Best, Ben [1] https://github.com/joyent/node/issues/3233
