If you want to run something before the mocha test suite runs, simply use
mocha's before() with a callback that fires when the mongodb lib fires its
'ready' or whatever event.
Something like
var dbThing
describe('my module', function() {
before(function(done) {
dbThing = require('whateverDB')
dbThing.on('ready', done)
dbThing.connect()
})
// etc
})
