The thing is this is not about what you, the speaker, has to talk about and things he can show in dept. This is about the audience, and they have an attention span of 10/20 minutes.
This means extra work for you, the speaker, that needs to filter and choose what content the audience should head about. But for the audience it means that during that time period the usage of their time as optimal, at the cost of your work. But hey, don't sign up to speak if you arent up for it :) Personally I like to do talks between 14/20 minutes, but when someone asks me for 40 I got like WTF.
