My two cents:
I don't think I would recommend Crockford's book ("The Good Parts") to
a beginner. It's more suited to someone who's worked with Javascript
for a while. You have to be aware of the bad parts, and the design
problems, and so on. before a lot of what Crockford writes would even
make sense.
