The PHP side is important as well. It would connect to MySql and fetch necessary data, I know Node can do this. But PHP has a bunch of better features you need to build a large website with than pure javascript.
Node should take care of the streaming part, and it's the most important aspect to make user want to come back. I know running live streaming involves a lot of bandwidth, but if my user base grows I think it's worth a try.
