I've just released version 0.8.4 of the pub/sub socket library Faye [ http://faye.jcoglan.com]. If you're using it (and even if you aren't :P) I recommend switching to this release because it makes establishing a WebSocket connection more efficient than it was previously. Details of Faye transport upgrade process and how we've optimised it are on my blog:
http://blog.jcoglan.com/2012/09/29/faye-0-8-4-more-efficient-socket-connections/ I've also written up a guide on securing Faye -- controlling publish and subscribe access, and preventing CSRF and XSS attacks and so on, which is easily done using extensions. I believe the concerns it addresses are relevant if you're building any kind of socket-based messaging application, and I'd encourage you to read it and provide feedback and pull requests -- the site is part of the Faye repo at http://github.com/faye/faye.
