These are just lower level examples. I'm not sure how familiar you are with 
PHP, but their is a host of PHP apis available (such as phpclasses.org) as 
well as full featured CMS's, blogs, etc. A more practical scenarios would 
be something along the lines of including wordpress lib files into node 
(php.include()) and using them for accessing user information, etc. Say for 
example in a node.js based IM service (just off the top of my head).
