I'm sure it's not "ridiculous". The article is published by a reputable company. I'm sure the method they're describing is useful for a specific purpose. I have not read the article but the subhead reads "Software-only approach enables over 30 times improvement in file transfer speeds between Japan and the US, reduces virtual desktop operating latency to less than 1/6 of previous levels". So it appears to deal better with high latency than existing common methods. So that's fine.
