Hi NodeJS List! You may have heard about 沪JS (HuJS), a JavaScript conference in Shanghai from last year that I helped to organize. This year, the same team of folks is doing it again, in Beijing, and it's called 京JS (JingJS).
Our CFP is now open and we'd love to hear from you! You can find more information on our website: http://jingjs.org Let me talk a little bit about the concept for these conferences: JavaScript, and Node.js, has a large international community. We have folks from every country sharing, learning and collaborating with one another using a common language of JavaScript. However, this is mostly facilitated due to another shared language: English (as well as a somewhat common cultural basis). Somehow, China has managed to have only a very small voice in this international dialogue. It's not because there aren't tons of awesome developers who care about JavaScript and Node living in China. In my opinion, it's a simple lack of interaction, mostly due to spoken language barriers and cultural differences. In fact, this problem is not unique to the JavaScript community, but effects the entire open source community across many technologies. Last year, HuJS was an experiment: Could we bring together the Chinese and international open source communities? Could we showcase China's vibrant developer community and help China have a stronger voice in that international dialogue? Substack, Tim Caswell, Charlie Robbins, Sara Chipps, Steve Sanderson, Glenn Block, myself and a host of others took a chance, and found out that all it takes is a common passion and the opportunity to be in the same place, at the same time, to bring those barriers down. We also found out that there were some amazing Node.js developers hiding within those inscrutable 汉字(chinese characters). One of them, Charlie Circle (谢骋超), is speaking at LXJS this year, which is awesome. We'd love for people from all over the globe to join us in Beijing this year, and get to know our Chinese colleagues, and share our knowledge, passions and unique perspectives. Our international speakers last year were mostly folks from the USA. This year, we'd like to see a stronger representation from other areas, like Europe, South America, Africa, Japan, Korea, Ukraine, India, etc. If you live both outside the US and outside of China, and would like to be part of this, please submit a proposal via the website (or GitHub), or just contact me. We are eager for you to join us. We'd also like to see more folks in the audience from outside of China. Last year, much to our surprise, Jason Denizac and Domenic Denicola from the US and Lee Hyung Geun from Korea, made it to the conference, on their own. That was only three out of 300. We'd like to see more than three international attendees this year. To that end, we'll be announcing some special incentives to make it easier to attend. If you don't think you want to speak, but would like to attend, contact me and we'll figure out how to help you do that. If you want to find out more about HuJS from last year, the website is: http://hujs.org We'll have all the videos up soon (hopefully).
