I would look into further performance checking of the actual app. I run a 
node-server with Nginx in front. It's node+express+sockjs and has seen over 
4,000 concurrent connections at once and the load never went above 0.6. My 
guess is there's some logic flow problems in your code causing things to 
bottleneck.
