Here's a bad place to ask really. I never heard of any successful npm package that came out of such project. npm packages are usually small and well-tested, which is exactly an opposite of what one would be doing for bachelor project.
Just pick the one you can write a big manual for with dozen of state diagrams and stuff like that. I can't remember if they actually look at the code.
