I suggest to use build-in buffers. 

see node.js documentation:
http://nodejs.org/api/buffer.html

* create a buffer of length 16: var buf = new Buffer(16)
* write 16 bytes into tho the buffer: buf.writeUInt8(value, i++)
* read 4 unsigned 32 bit integer from the buffer : buf.readUInt32BE(4*i++)
