If you're commenting your package.json, you're doing it wrong. No exceptions.
Well yeah, sorry for the troll-looking post. There are a few exceptions of course. :)
Anyway, a few people do comment it out, and the reasons are quite convincing:

But the json syntax highly discourage that. Can you imagine a program without comments? A non-trivial nginx config? It's possible, but it's assumed to be a bad style.
I'm not even talking about JSON being bad for source control because of an absence of trailing commas... Oh well, I intended to just remind people to learn all pros and cons of the tools they are using. This thread is got diverted unintentionally, sorry about that.
