You would want middleware like that (which needs to do something on each 
request) to be 'used' *before* app.router.  The only thing you really want 
to come after app.router is error handling middleware (i.e., middleware 
with an arity of 4: fn(err, req, res, next).  

This is more an express than a node question; be advised there is a 
separate google group for express questions
