NodeJS es como otros servidores normales. Se puede ejecutar para siempre o puede iniciarlo durante algún tiempo y hacer lo que está programado para y puede matarse a sí mismo. Depende totalmente de sus necesidades, por definición usted puede hacer cualquier cosa con él como servidor normal.
