This Memorial Day weekend while you are out grilling, taking in a game at the ball park or spending time with family & friends, I ask each of you to take a moment in your own special way to remember our fallen countrymen and women. They each answered a call for their country for right or wrong and for different reasons. Some joined for the education benefits, some because they had no job. Others, because they felt it was their duty. Most for all three and more. They came from all backgrounds, all sorts of religious beliefs. Some with no beliefs at all. But when it came time to leave their friends and family to go to a distant country, all their differences went away. With unfailing courage they bonded together as Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, Coasties and Civilians. They were just Americans. These American placed themselves in harms way to protect a lifestyle, a way of life that some of us take for granted. They will no longer be grilling, or taking in a ball game or spending time with friends and family. All we have left of them is a memory. So this Memorial Day, as I turn my burger and drink my beer, I’ll spend a moment or two to remember Staff Sergeant Robert Rodrequiz, Specialist Aspen, Lt Colonel Wren and never forget. Mission well done!! I’ll miss you.
