Game #1 saw a major pitching duel between Oakland lefty John Lester and Newton's King Felix Hernandez. Things remained quiet early until the bottom of the 3rd where it didn't look like much would happen as Lester got Baldelli to ground out and his pitching counterpart(the King) to strike out. It was then that Ryan Sweeney and Hanley Ramirez both singled and Chase Utley walked to load things up. Lefty Killer Ryan Raburn with the bases juiced, then was also walked to bring in the games first run(little did we know that would hold up) Then up stepped Alex Rodriguez with the home faithful standing cheering Lester struck him out swinging ending the threat! The game continued as a pitchers duel with no team hardly threatening the rest of the way. DesMoines wins the game 1-0. Lester went 7innings giving up 3 hits and striking out 9. The King went 8 giving up 2 hits and striking out 5. It was one heck of a game! Game #2 matched up hometown Javier Vasquez and Oakland's Matt Garza. Vasquez got Kubel to ground into a double play in the top of the first. DesMoines didn't waste much time as they scored in the all of the first 3 frames behind 2 homers by Hanley Ramirez and a homer by Alex Rodriguez to jump on top of Oakland and Garza 5-0 after 3. Things were fairly quiet until Oakland threatened in the bottom of the 7th with the bases loaded and no outs; DeJesus struck out, VMart forced in a run, and Uribe then also struck out to end the threat. DesMoines takes the game 5-1 behind a 3-4 from Hanley and a solid start by Vasquez and some nice bullpen help. Lyle Overbay was the only Buzzard to get a hit as he had 2. He also was injured on his last at bat for 15 games(which I am not sure what that means in the playoffs?) The series which will shift back to Oakland has been marked by a lack of bats with both teams hitting poorly outside of a couple homers by Hanley Ramirez. The bats may stay cool with Ubaldo Jimenez vs Roy Halladay??? Time will tell:-) Bob, stats are attached. Let me know if you see anything funny. Good luck at your place.
