 Game #7- Dan Haren(Panthers) vs Felix Hernandez(Dragons)
FOR ALL THE MARBLES!
With the Des Moines Dragon home crowd of 41,090 in attendance, the two
time world champions go to game #7 against the upstart Newton Panthers led by
manager Trey Vanderlaan in just his first year of duty. The Panthers
wasted little time getting a lead off hit by Pedroia, a walk by Werth and an
RBI
single by Jason Bay to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the top half.
Hanley Ramirez led off the bottom half with a double and Lance Berkman singled
him in to tie the game at 1-1 after 1 inning. Things remained that way
until the bottom half of the 3rd when second baseman Chase Utley hit a big fly
to give the home team Dragons a 2-1 lead. Both Haren and Hernandez would
settle down as things remained at 2-1 until the the bottom of the 8th when
Hanley got things going again with a 1 out single. Up stepped Chase Utley
who once again hit a big fly to blow the game open to 4-1 Dragons. Later
a Berkman and A-rod back to back doubles plated another Dragon runner.
Varitek would later tack on another run to give standing home crowd a 6-1 lead
with just one inning left to play. Alexi Ramirez got things kicked off
for the Panthers in the 9th with a single to left field. Hoffman was
brought on and he closed things out 1,2,3 to finish off the Panthers and give
the
Dragons a 3rd straight World Series Championship. Felix Hernandez was
credited with the win even though he wasn't all that sharp going 6 1/3 giving
up 6 hits, 4 walks, but only giving up 1 run, and striking out 4. The
Dragon bullpen took it from there going 3 innings giving up only 1 hit and
walking 1 and no runs. Dan Haren was the loser going 6 innings giving up 5
hits, 2 runs, and striking out 5.
Chase Utley was the hitting star for Dragons as he went 2-4 with 2 homers
and 3 RBI's. Alex Rodriguez was given the World Series MVP hitting .320
for the series with 4 homers and 10 rbi's. King Felix won two games in the
series giving up 3 runs in 3 games and striking out 16. Pedroia and Howard
were the leaders for the Panthers getting on base, but just couldn't
generate the runs to pull off the series.

A big congrats to my son Trey who got to the World Series in his first
year in the league. Guys we had a great time together playing these games and
talking a little baseball. I will never forget it!

Now on to the trade talk!

Thanks for a great year everybody!

Tom
