During each month each team shall carry 1 player at each position as well as: a fourth outfielder, a second catcher and enough utility players to cover 2B, SS and 3B. These positions can all be covered by 1 regular player if he is capable. Concerning 1B i stated that you had to have two 1B on your 40 man but only one on your 25 man roster. It just seemed to me when I look at Major league teams they always have backups for every position except 1B. The guy playing 1B backup always seems to be a guy that plays OF, 2B, SS or 3B.
