I haven't tried this, but it might fit your needs:
gjackclock - JACK transport big clock.
usage: gjackclock [Options]
Options:
-a, --ontop start 'always-on-top' of other windows
-C <color> background-color ('#RRGGBB' or name eg 'black')
-c <color> text-color ('#RRGGBB' or name eg 'blue')
-d
set seek-distance (default 10.0 sec)
-f <FPS>, --fps <FPS> set timecode-fps (default 25 or timebase-master)
-h, --help display this help and exit
-I, --ignore-timemaster ignore JACK-timebase-master FPS setting
-l <file>,
--config <file> load configuration from <file>
-N, --no-scale do not scale font when resizing the window
-n, --no-fps-display hide FPS info from display
-q, --quiet, --silent inhibit usual output
-S <FONT-Family> default 'Monospace'
-s <FONT-size> default 60
-t, --table-layout render time in equally spaced table (use with
variable width fonts)
-V, --version print version information and exit
-w <XOFFxYOFF> set window position (eg '100x200')
Notes:
* use -f 29.97 for drop-frame timecode
* default key-bindings (override with ~/.gjackclockrc)
'space' - toggle play/pause
'p' - pause
'b' - play
'r' - rewind
'<' - skip backward
'>' - skip forward
CTRL-[q|w] - quit
There are probably other ways to get key bindings to work, perhaps to
make use of transport controls on some multi-media keyboards...
