The benefits of Exchange Server 2000 are found when it is installed on a Windows 2000 server with active directory. The main attraction is that Exchange 2000 and Windows 2000 Active Directory have a hand in glove fit. Through Active Directory administrating accounts and mailboxes is made easier through one directory and one management tool. You no longer have to keep track of two directories.
However, if you don't have Windows 2000 server with active directory running you might as well stay with Exchange 5.5 until Microsoft stops supporting it which will be coming some day soon. Looking at the added costs and complexities involved, we are now considering staying with Exchange 5.5 to save money. Can anyone comment on the benefits of upgrading to Exchange 2000 and/or other ways to improve spam control with Exchange 5.5?
