I also happen to be the moderator/owner of a web group of our(MLN MC) alumni spread wordwide and incidentally one of them has just posted this to our message board- today only :
Ode to Amit
U should have been a budding engnr. Had u opened up to your father regarding the tourture you had undergone during you ragging. Here is a small poem dedicated to the departed soul who commited sicide due to RAGGING in Jalandhar last Tuseday.
A seed
sleeping in a womb growing
wondering if it could hear outside world
feels ups and down of mood of a person carrying it
wondering when it kicks, it is getting attention
of a person who is feeding it through umblical cord
Gradually growing taking definite shape
waiting to come out of warm womb of its mother
and fend for himself
Growing under the care of loving father and mother
Seed grown to fetus to infant to toddler and finally a teenager
Cruel world made him go back to a world where there is no ragging
verbal abuse , physical threats, life is secured, both physically and mentaly

(Major Sneh Lata Samant was five years junior to me in MLNMC and has served in Armed Forces Medical Services for many years after her medical graduation.A good poetess since the college days.)
It was really unfortunate that you didn't have a chance to meet those like her there due to a handful of those whom we are really ashamed of.

Not true to that extent.The way I know it there has been considrable decline as compared to the extent it was till few years back. -N.T.

When we were medicos there, most of our teachers were from the generation which had faced it all in its own student life.A considerable number of them beleived that it did good to the freshers hence used to patronise it indirectly ( though not to the extent of such physical torture).
Most of the newcomers to faculty in last couple of years are those whom we have taught at a time and I can assure you that these are the ones who're not from those whom you came across. We have a lot of hopes from them and the things must change in time to come.
True to your guess I've many contacts in the faculty there.Even the college principal at present is one of our own alumni,few years senior to me . I'll try my best to to do whatever I can to eradicate this evil from our alma mater.
