Hyderabad: The two member PIL bench of the Andhra Pradesh High court
comprising Chief Justice G.S.Singhvi and Justice C.V,Nagarjuna Reddy
on Wednesday admitted a writ petition seeking guidelines to the
print and visual media while reporting sensitive cases.

The writ petition is filed by Prof. Katyayani a Telugu Professor
contending inter alia that the media was prone to exaggerated
reporting leading to fatal consequences.

She cited the case of Smt. Lalitha who committed suicide on seeing
repeated telecast of the physical abuse of her son who was a victim
of ragging in a Engineering college. The petitioner said the time
has come for the Press Council to lay down professional guidelines
