New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the
Centre to immediately notify the constitution of a
high-power committee, headed by the former CBI
Director R.K. Raghavan, to go into ragging in
educational institutions.

A Bench consisting of Justices Arijit Pasayat and S.H.
Kapadia accepted the names suggested by Additional
Solicitor-General Gopal Subramaniam for members.

They would be the Director of the Institute of
Technology, Kanpur; and the principals of the Moulana
Azad Medical College College and the Ramjas College,
Delhi. The Joint Secretary in the Human Resource
Development Ministry would be the member-convener.

The Bench asked the committee to include two members,
one each from Chennai and Mumbai.

It would be open to the panel to have representations
from each State, what with differing ground reality.

The court asked the committee to come out with
suggestions in four months indicating stern measures
against those who indulged in ragging and the
institutions where the problem was reported.
