HYDERABAD: A First year student of a business management school was
allegedly beaten up in his hostel by a former student of the same
institute on Monday night. The incident took place in the hostel of
Gandikota Business School at Mahendra Hills. Police said a minor
argument between the fresher and the former student led to the attack.
No case of ragging has been registered.

According to the police, the victim, Karthik Reddy, took admission in
the Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) course in the institute in
the fresh academic session. He was staying in the institute’s hostel.

“On Monday night, Karthik Reddy had an argument with Sudhir Kumar in
the hostel. Sudhir Kumar had come to the hostel to pack up his
belongings when the incident took place,” Tukaram Gate police inspector
S Suryanarayana said.

According to the police, Sudhir Kumar was infuriated over the fresher
not giving him sufficient ‘respect’. Sudhir Kumar beat up Karthik Reddy
in a fit of rage and left the place.

Though there were initial reports that the attack was a case of
ragging, police investigations found that the fresher was not ragged by
any of his seniors. Police said a petty case has been registered
against Sudhir Kumar. No arrest has been made.

The incident took place at a time when a workshop against ragging was
being conducted at Jubilee Hall. Senior police officials, Minister for
Higher Education D Sridhar Babu participated.
