Kapurthala, Punjab (PTI): In an incident of ragging, a ninth class
student of local Sainik school was allegedly severely beaten up by his
seniors with sticks and belts resulting in fracture on his left arm and
injury on his back after which four students were suspended.

The incident, which took place on Friday night, came to the notice of
victim's father Sukhpal Singh, a resident of Tarn Tarn in Punjab when
he visited the army-run school on Saturday in connection with the
parents day meet.

All the parents complained to the school principal Col. Satbir Singh
about alleged indiscipline in the school. Principal Satbir Singh
suspended four boys of twelfth class who were allegedly responsible for
the attack and asked them to bring their parents within seven days,
otherwise they would be rusticated.

He assured the parents to deal strictly with the senior boys who ragged
the victim. The victim, who had joined the school in 6th class, was
given first aid at a private hospital this morning when the school
authorities came to know about the incident.

He told visiting mediapersons in the school premises on Saturday that
he had complained to the house master Yadvinder Singh that some senior
boys were harassing him last evening, after which on the same night
students of 12th class of the school attacked him with sticks and belts.

The boy remained unattended throughout the night, his father claimed.
Satbir Singh told reporters that the school authorities came to know
about the incident at 10.30am on Saturday and the boy was taken to a
private hospital for treatment.

He said there was no teacher or House master in the hostel at the time
of the incident.

The principal admitted some senior boys used to ask the juniors to
bring their clothes from the laundry or bring books from their senior
colleagues but denied any ragging incident.

He said he had formed a three-member committee to inquire into the
incident and suggest remedical measures to avoid such incidents in
future.

Meanwhile, parents of the victim took him to Tarn Tarn, their native
place, for treatment.
