AHMEDABAD: A visually impaired student of Gujarat College was ragged inside the campus 10 days ago. Ellisbridge police and vice-chancellor of Gujarat University, Parimal Trivedi, has initiated independent investigations into the matter. "We are taking this matter seriously and an enquiry has been initiated. We have sought clarification from the college," said Trivedi. The incident was kept under wraps and surfaced after some anonymous letters were written by a professor of the college. The college's prinicipal, Piyush Pandya denied the incident but added, "Two visually impaired students do study in the college but I am not aware of any incident of ragging," said Pandya. A peon of the college rushed to the Ellisbridge police station and complained to a head constable there that trouble was brewing in the college's hostel. The head constable went to the hostel and found that a blind student was being harassed by other students who were also bursting crackers at his feet. The cops drove away the bullies and restored peace. "The next day Pandya had called me and complained that one of my policemen had caused some trouble inside the college. I spoke to the head constable and he narrated the incident of ragging inside the college. A few days later we got an anonymous letter from an professor of the college. The professor lauded the police's punitive action and that the same set of students often create nuisance inside the college.
