Innovation :- Generation of electricity by using wind turbonator in Tea Estate

Sri Kirti Barbaruah, Senior Manager of Gorunga Tea Estate, has successfully
generated electricity from the wind coming out of withering troughs by using
wind turbonator. Withering troughs are used in a tea estate to wither green tea
leaf as part of the tea manufacturing process. The withering troughs use big
fans for the purpose.

This is a pilot project (at Gorunga TE by Kirti Barbaruah) of using waste wind
coming out from the withering trough so as to utilise the waste wind energy for
generating electricity for daily purposes. Four hours of withering fan wind is
redirected to a turbonator to produce electricity. This can generate 2 KW of
electricity. The project has now been taken up by Petroleum Conservation
Research Association (PCRA).

Mr. Barbaruah has been advised to explore the possibility of applying for
patent. Gorunga Tea Estate is situated in Golaghat district and is a member tea
estate of North Eastern Tea Association (NETA). Sri Barbaruah is an executive
committee member of NETA.
